Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police report preliminary tests show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in 2020.
